Bringing Healing to Oneself Through Creativity: An Art Therapy Experiential Workshop Series

This ‘Art Therapy Experiential Workshop Series’is a 5-week (5 Saturdays) programme catered for Adults above the ages of 20. Together we will explore various forms of art media, look deeply at one’s life, explore one’s emotions, build on one’s resilience, and learn relaxation and de-stressing tools that can be used by yourself. It will take place in a Non-Judgmental and Safe Space, where you do not need to have any background knowledge in art!

Shimali Perera (née Goonetilleke) is a Master’s Graduate of Art Therapy from Goldsmith’s College, University of London and a Registered Art Psychotherapist of ANZATA (Australian and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association). She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (USA). As an Art Psychotherapist her experience is with adults who have misused substances, those experiencing depression, anxiety disorders and children who have experienced trauma due to physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect, children from single parent families, and grief. Shimali has also conducted talks and art therapy experiential workshops for counsellors, professionals in the co-operate sector, teachers, children, and the general public in both Sri Lanka and overseas. She was also a resource person and a stall holder at the public exhibition held in celebration of the ‘World Health Day 2017 – Depression #LetsTalk’ organised by World Health Organization, Sri Lanka, as well as at the ‘World Mental Health Day 2017 – Mental Health in the Workplace’ Public Exhibition, organised by the National Institute of Mental Health, Angoda.
